I love the spiral pattern of edging with purple and then with pale spikelets. My eye keeps trying to follow it onto the one big leaf in left center; I only wish that edge were in clearer focus.

you're absolutely right, it would be a better photo if that edge were in focus. because of the way the plant grew (that leaf came way out towards me) i couldn't get everything in focus that i wanted to. i have to start working much more on controlling depth of field; i'm letting the camera do too much on its own by mostly shooting in aperture priority mode (i really don't like to be fidding a lot when i am just wandering around looking for interesting stuff, but i've got to do more practice sessions at home so it becomes less fiddly and more automatic).

Yeah, it can be really hard to get enough DOF in closeups esp. without lugging a tripod. And hard even to see when you've missed focus on something, with compact cameras.
